Background Information

Especially in the last year, we have seen a large number social and political movements inspire advocacy from so many. Part of that advocacy has been made possible thanks to the tools the internet has brought us. One of those types of tools is donation platforms. In the last year alone, we have seen many high-profile donation pages in direct response to many social and political movements and causes. People usually find these pages on social media when a link to those pages are shared by others in a post or when directed to a link in bio. While it is possible to find these pages fairly quickly, it does require some digging.

The Goal

The client wants a website for socially and politically conscious internet users to find a way to make it easy for people to find the donation pages for the causes they wish to support.

My Role

I took on the roles of UX Researcher and UX Designer. As an UX Researcher of the team, I conceived the research questions as well as conduct the analysis. As an UX Designer of the team I constructed the user flows, the user personas as well as the wireframes. I designed the high fidelity prototype for the login screen as well as the profile page.

Research

The Suspected Problem: People have a hard time finding the main donation pages for the causes they wish to support. Unless they stumble upon the links to the donation pages on social media, they are otherwise difficult to find.

New Discovery: Through our research we discovered that people don’t have a hard time finding donation links. They are having a hard time finding trustworthy and correct links to make sure their money is going to the right causes.

Research Analysis: From the research we synthesized our results and created a user flow and our user persona.

Challenges: In order to facilitate trustworthiness between the donator and organizations as well as filtering out spam we would require organizations to register with us in order to use our website to accept donations. Upon meeting with our software developer, we discovered that in terms of software programing, we were not offering a level of security over having organizations submitting a form with their organization id.

Iteration

We started with our low fidelity prototype which consists of our wireframe. After testing our design, we moved to the mid fidelity prototype. From there we did a rebrand from Buzzhub to Quick Causes which is more aligned with our users and our goal. From mid fidelity to high fidelity we made several UI changes to our main page, profile page and login page.

Solution

In order to satisfy the new constraint, we decided to use a form submission. Unfortunately, the forms would have to be manually sorted. We can leverage technology by throwing out submissions that are using commercial email.

Achievements

Verification provides donators peace of mind when donating.

Donations are centralized in one place allowing donators to easily find causes they care about.

Donators will know that Quick Causes is a trusted donation site.
